Musical Guests:
ZO!
Listen to Zo! here:www.theforeignexchangemusic.com/zo
Multi-Instrumentalist/Producer Zo! is Detroit-area born and raised Lorenzo Ferguson.
Music was always present in and around the Ferguson house, which led to Zo! taking piano lessons at age 6… which he absolutely despised. The idea of working toward a Major League Baseball career served as the greatest inspiration through his teenage years much more so than the concept of practicing music. After his parents consistently pushed and encouraged him to stick with music, Zo! discovered a newfound passion by teaching himself how to play piano by ear by age 11. Zo! got his production start in 1992 when his parents brought home a Proteus MPS keyboard and a Brother PDC100 sequencer for him to figure out. Since then, he has emphasized the use of live instrumentation as the blueprint for his music while constantly looking to expand his sound with each album release.
Sy Smith
Listen to Sy Smith here: www.sysmith.com
Sy Smith has long since solidified her place in underground soul music. This Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter/producer helped cultivate the nu-soul scene in that city more than ten years ago. Many fans are aware of Sy’s previous work providing supporting vocals for the likes of Me’Shell N’degeocello, Usher, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Macy Gray, The Rickey Minor Band (as seen on American Idol for six seasons), and quite notable, Chris Botti (her performance of “Look Of Love” on his Grammy-nominated live DVD is a favorite among his listeners), but Sy continues to gain new fans in the trenches of the underground scene touring with acts like The Foreign Exchange and Orgone. And even more recently, she’s teamed up with Sheila E. and the Escovedo Family, providing them with her well-known supportive vocals and vibrant energy! Sy can currently be seen every night, singing with The Tonight Show Band.
